Let’s Dance for Sport Relief returns with Steve Jones and Alex Jones
The BBC today announces the return of dance extravaganza Let’s Dance for Sport Relief to BBC One. Hosted once again by Steve Jones and Alex Jones, the 5 x 80 minute glitter-fuelled extravaganza series will follow 20 sparkly celebrity acts from the worlds of TV, comedy and sport as they perform in the hope of winning votes and being crowned champion of the dance floor.
Last series, Emmerdale’s James Thornton and comedian Charlie Baker proved a toe tapping hit with the viewers, beating the likes of Noel Fielding, Russell Kane, Katie Price and Lulu to be voted winners of one of the most coveted trophies in the dancing world. Who will win over the viewers this year with their hip wiggling routine?
The series will run over five consecutive Saturday nights, comprising four heats and culminating in a final dance-off spectacular ahead of 2012’s big Sport Relief night.
Alex Jones said: “I am so excited to be back on such a great show with the fabulous Steve Jones. After my time on Strictly I am only sorry that it won’t be me dancing the night away!”
Steve Jones said: “The BBC, Let’s Dance, and Alex Jones…..Three of my favourite things. I couldn’t ask for a better show to come home to…I can’t wait!”
Jo Wallace, Executive Editor Comedy Entertainment, said “I am delighted that Alex and Steve will both be coming back to host Let’s Dance for Sport Relief. Following on from Charlie and James’s fantastic winning routine last year; I can’t wait to see the celebrities taking part this year light up our screens on a Saturday night. It’s entertainment at its best, with the whole family able to sit around the television and pick their favourite.
Malcolm Gerrie, Executive Producer for Whizz Kid Entertainment said: ‘”We are proud to have raised so much money for Comic Relief to date and we’ll be pulling out all the stops this series to wow BBC One viewers with more of the UK’s top talent performing like you’ve never seen them before. Steve and Alex are a great double act and it’s fantastic that we have them back together again.”
Kevin Cahill, CEO of Comic Relief said: “We are delighted that Let’s Dance for Sport Relief is back for 2012. Following a wonderful fundraising total for Red Nose Day this year, we’re confident that once again viewers will go the extra mile and help raise a life changing amount of money for people living incredibly tough lives both here in the UK and across the world.”
