Russell Kane and Katie Price dance their way through to the final in week one of Let’s Dance For… Comic Relief!

Russell Kane and Katie Price are the first two acts to boogie their way into the final of Let’s Dance ForÉ Comic Relief, following their star spangled performances in the first show of the series.

Presenters Alex Jones and Steve Jones announced that the viewers had chosen Russell Kane as their favourite, the first act to win a place in the final on Saturday 12th March after performing a spectacular homage to Crazy in Love, Beyonce.

Runners up Katie Price and Waterloo Road’s Philip Martin Brown and Rebecca Ryan then faced the three panellists, Graham Norton, Frank Skinner and Greg Davies who decided which act would win the second place in the final after their performances of Queen’s, I Want To Break Free, and It’s Like That, Run DMC respectively.

Panellists Graham Norton and Frank Skinner both voted for Katie Price which carried the majority vote, confirming her place in the final alongside Russell Kane.

Following Russell’s performance, Graham Norton said: “My eyes!, I have a fear on my deathbed I will shut my eyes and I’ll see that again. It was amazing, I am amazed.”

Frank Skinner said (to Russell Kane): “The worrying thing is I didn’t look at the girls once, it wasn’t an impression it was a metamorphosis. I loved it, brilliant!”

Greg Davies said (to Russell Kane): “For me it occupied a very difficult space, somewhere between the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen and the most profoundly erotic. I think we may have just seen the greatest dance routine on British television.”

On confirming her place in the final with a fantastic performance of Queens, I Want To Break Free, Katie Price said : “I can’t believe having two left feet has actually paid off… not a bad result for my dancefloor debut! It’s been brilliant being involved with Comic Relief, although the thought of doing it all over again in the final might just finish me off completely.”

The viewers’ favourite Russell Kane then closed the show with one more rendition of Crazy In Love. Tonight’s show was the first of three heats and saw property and design gurus Colin & Justin (Xanadu, Olivia Newton-John), actress and comedian Rebecca Front (It’s Oh So Quiet, Björk), Waterloo Road’s Philip Martin Brown and Rebecca Ryan (It’s Like That, Run DMC) and comedian, Ed Byrne (I Love To Boogie, T. Rex), eliminated.

There were also performances from JLS who performed their single, ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ and Taio Cruz & Kimberly Wyatt who performed their latest track, ‘Higher’.

Next week, six more celebrity contestants will take to the floor in a bid to wow viewers with iconic dance routines and win a place in the final of Let’s Dance For… Comic Relief.

Comic Relief was launched on Christmas Day in 1985, live on BBC One. At that time, a devastating famine was crippling Ethiopia and something had to be done. That something was Comic Relief. The idea was simple – Comic Relief would make the public laugh while they raised money to help people in desperate need. Before too long, Red Nose Day was created and the first ever event in 1988 raised a staggering £15m. To date, twelve Red Nose Days have raised more than £500m. That money has helped, and is helping, to support people and communities in dire need both in the UK and Africa.

BBC ONE has commissioned Whizz Kid Entertainment (WKE) to produce a third series of the hugely popular celebrity-led series Let’s Dance… for Comic Relief.

Let’s Dance sees well known celebrities pay homage to some of the world’s most iconic dance routines in front of a live studio audience. The stars battle it out each week in a bid to wow viewers with their moves and secure a place in the grand final. Claudia Winkleman and Steve Jones will once more be co-hosting the run.

In the long tradition of the charity, it’s great fun, full of laughs but is all for a serious cause. Jo Wallace, Executive Editor, BBC Entertainment Commissioning, added: The last two series of “Let’s Dance for…have captured the hearts of the nation, bringing them a Saturday night show brimming with entertaining, jaw dropping and comical performances from a host of celebrities, all in the name of charity. It is a pleasure to have the series returning to our screens as part of a fantastic line up of programmes for Comic Relief 2011.”

Kevin Cahill, CEO, Comic Relief, said: “Let’s Dance was undoubtedly one of the big highlights of the Red Nose Day 2009 and Sport Relief 2010 campaigns, and I’m delighted that it’s back for a third series. Each year the artists taking part put everything into their jaw-dropping performances and we are confident the public will be both entertained and inspired to donate to Red Nose Day 2011.”

Let’s Dance is a Whizz Kid Entertainment production for BBC ONE. It will be directed by Richard Valentine, series produced by Barbara Lee and executive produced by Malcolm Gerrie, Lisa Chapman and Antonia Hurford–Jones for Whizz Kid Entertainment. Channel 4 commissions Christmas Special and Second Series of Being…N-Dubz from Whizz Kid Entertainment

Channel 4 has commissioned Whizz Kid Entertainment to produce both a Christmas special and a second series of ratings hit Being…N-Dubz (6×30’).

The first series gave audiences unprecedented access to the daily lives of the members of million selling, multi platinum pop act act N-Dubz. After its successful run on Channel 4, 4Music and Kiss, it regularly out performed against its slot average.

Ground breaking and cutting edge Ð this is the ultimate form of reality TV using state of the art Point of View filming. You can’t get any closer to a celebrity than actually standing in their shoes, seeing the world through their eyes. In Being…N-Dubz you become them.

Series One followed the highs and lows of the band, as they embarked on a busy summer of recording, promoting and performing. Notable highs included their headline set at the legendary Glastonbury Festival, plus their performance at the prestigious Mad Music Awards in Greece. The series also successfully captured the raw energy and close family bond the band enjoy, extending to regular rows and honest accounts of what it is to be one of the UK’s most talked about bands.

After the success of the first series, we continue on our journey with N-Dubz with a 1 hour Christmas Special. We will follow the band as they prepare for the release of their new album: ‘Love. Life. Life’ released date of November 29th. The Observer recently referred to the band as ‘Britain’s most culturally relevant group’ / ‘voice of today’s youth’.

Highlights will include the dynamic trio presenting and performing at the MOBO’s where they won Best Song for ‘Playing With Fire’, a performance at T4 Stars of 2010, as well as seeing the more intimate side of the band as they prepare for Christmas.

Series two will begin filming in early 2011.

Malcolm Gerrie, Chief Executive, Whizz Kid Entertainment, said: “We are thrilled with the success achieved by the first series of Being…N-Dubz and are delighted to be working with Channel 4 on the special and second run. The series became one of the most talked about shows of the summer — the unique head-cam technology allowing audiences to see the fantastic world of Dappy, Fazer, and Tulisa through their very own eyes. Series Two has even more surprises in store!”

Neil McCallum, Commissioning Editor T4, Youth and Music added: “Being…N-Dubz was a huge success and gave our viewers a fascinating insight into the working and personal lives of one of the UK’s hottest, musical acts. This compelling, headline grabbing, TV show was as a result of incredible access, state of the art technology and a band that are simply brilliant at being themselves. We’re delighted that Dappy, Tulisa and Fazer are back on board for the Christmas Special and a second series. And we can’t wait to once again join them as they take us along for what looks set to be an entertaining ride.”

Being…N-Dubz…at Christmas is a Whizz Kid Entertainment production for Channel 4. It will be series produced by Jaime Brannan and executive produced by Katherine Allen and Malcolm Gerrie for Whizz Kid Entertainment and Jonathan Shalit and Rich Castillo for ROAR Global. Neil McCallum and Cath Lovesey commissioned the series for Channel 4.

Let’s Dance Gets Toes Tapping Around the World

FremantleMedia has secured a raft of international format deals for Whizz Kid Entertainment’s celebrity led series, Let’s Dance.

Let’s Dance, originally commissioned by BBC ONE in the UK, sees well known celebrities pay homage to some of the world’s most iconic dance routines in front of a live audience. The stars battle it out each week in a bid to wow viewers with their moves and secure a place in the series finale, competing to be crowned Let’s Dance king or queen.

The format has been commissioned by RTL4 (Holland), Sat Eins (Germany), Channel Russia (Russia), Indosiar (Indonesia), TVJoj (Slovakia) and TV4 (Sweden).

Earlier this year, UK comedian Rufus Hound danced his way to the grand finale of BBC ONE’s Let’s Dance for Sport Relief, with a show-stopping performance of Cheryl Coles’ ‘Fight for this Love’. The show had a peak audience of 8 million viewers in its 7pm Saturday night slot. This followed a hugely successful first series, which saw Peep Show actor, Robert Webb, triumph with his interpretation of the famous Flashdance routine, which became a YouTube phenomenon with over 900,000 hits.

Malcolm Gerrie, CEO, Whizz Kid Entertainment, said: “Let’s Dance appeals to audiences of all ages – it brings out the best in its celebrity participants, who really have fun and enjoy performing the most weird and wonderful routines. Whizz Kid to Produce Being… N-Dubz Presented by adidas Originals for Channel 4

Whizz Kid Entertainment has been commissioned by Channel 4 to produce Being… N-Dubz presented by adidas Originals (6×30’), a new series that gives audiences unique access to one of the UK’s hottest urban acts.

Using state of the art HD POV mini cameras fixed at the band members’ eye level, the series will offer an intimate and revealing look at the world through the eyes of Dappy, Tulisa and Fazer.

Being… N-Dubz presented by adidas Originals will follow the band as they go about their everyday lives. From recording new material, to visiting friends and family or making public appearances, the audience will feel as though they are right there with them. Whatever the band looks at, the viewer looks at; whoever they talk to, wherever they go and whatever they do the camera will be there, allowing the viewer to actually experience it through the band’s eyes.

Malcolm Gerrie, Chief Executive, Whizz Kid Entertainment, said: “Being… represents the ultimate in access television, using state of the art technology to see the world through the eyes of the talent. We are lucky to have secured the hottest act in the land for series one and I’m sure there will be many memorable moments across the six half-hours!”

Cath Lovesey, Editor, T4 & Music, added: “This series is bringing our viewers unique and unprecedented access to one of the hottest and certainly one of the most loved UK bands at the moment – we’re delighted the band have come to C4 and we know the series will be a riotous, unpredictable and entertaining journey.”

Jonathan Shalit said: “N-Dubz are currently the UK’s most successful urban act, signed to All Around the World Records in the UK and recently to US label, Island Def Jam, which also has Rihanna and Kanye West on its books. The band has to date achieved two platinum selling albums, a No.1 single, six Top 40 hits and three sell out tours. They have also collaborated with Tinchy Stryder and Mr. Hudson.”

Being… was originally piloted last year on T4, featuring Alesha Dixon and The Saturdays. It is based on an idea by Chris Graves.

Being… N-Dubz presented by adidas Originals is a Whizz Kid Entertainment production for Channel 4. It will be produced and directed by Tom McKay and Chris Graves, series produced by Jaime Brannan and executive produced by Malcolm Gerrie and Antonia Hurford-Jones for Whizz Kid Entertainment and Jonathan Shalit and Rich Castillo for N-Dubz. Neil McCallum and Cath Lovesey commissioned the series for Channel 4.

4 Ventures has taken rights to the series
