Antony Cotton is the Let’s Dance Champion 2013

Antony Cotton has danced his way to victory in the grand final of Let’s Dance For Comic Relief, after impressing viewers and panellists not once, but twice, with his show stopping performance of ‘Anything Goes’.

Viewers tuned in to a supreme dance off between all six acts that made it through to this year’s final, The Soap Stars (Natalie Cassidy, Dean Gaffney, Ricky Groves and Claire Sweeney), comedians Katherine Ryan, Tim Vine and Lee Nelson as well as Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton and West End star Jodie Prenger

It was a tense wait as presenters Alex Jones and Steve Jones announced that the viewers had chosen Antony Cotton as their champion. “I’m speechless. I just want to thank everyone that phoned and voted…It was a real honour and a real thrill for me. I’ve not danced since I was a kid and I’ve really, really loved it”, said a surprised Antony.

Tonight’s panellists, Jo Brand, Greg Davies and Frank Skinner also gave their verdict on the night winner.

Greg Davies said: “I know for a fact that until this time two weeks ago, Antony had never once danced before in his entire life. It just goes to show that tap dancing is incredibly easy to pick up. I thought it was amazing, of course I did. It was incredible.”

Jo Brand said: “I thought it was brilliant and it made me desperate to be in an old people’s home”.

Frank Skinner said: “It did make me feel like going out and learning to tap dance because the way it invigorated those senior citizens was really wonderful”. He added “I love tap dancing…it was right up my 42nd street, as they say.”

Antony then closed the series in style with a final reminder of why he is the nation’s favourite and Let’s Dance for Comic Relief Champion 2013, treating viewers to a final encore of ‘Anything Goes’.

In this final show, more footage was shown from One Direction’s visit to communities in Africa that have received help from Comic Relief. A video from Alex and Steve’s visit to Malawi also featured, in which they witnessed a health centre struggling to cope with demand for vaccinations.

There was also world exclusive performance from Taylor Swift of her new single ’22’ and Bruno Mars also gave a spectacular performance of his new single ‘When I Was Your Man’.
