Antony Cotton and Katherine Ryan are through to the final of Let’s Dance for Comic Relief
Antony Cotton and Katherine Ryan are the next two acts to sweep their way into the final of Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, joining viewers favourite Tim Vine and The Soap Stars who made it through last week. Presenters Alex Jones and Steve Jones announced that viewers had voted Antony Cotton through to the final on Saturday 9th March, after his performance to ‘Anything Goes’.
Runners up, Katherine Ryan and Waterloo Road then faced this weeks’ panellists, Paloma Faith, Jason Manford and Lisa Riley, who had to decide which act deserved to win the fourth place in the final, following their performances of ‘Starships’, and ‘Spice up Your Life’ respectively.
Panellists Jason Manford and Paloma Faith both voted for Katherine Ryan, giving her the majority vote and a place in the final alongside Antony.
Jason Manford said: “For sheer comedy and the gamble of wearing that outfit, I’m going to have to go with Katherine!”
Lisa Riley said: “They were both absolutely phenomenal, [Waterloo Road] opened the show brilliantly, and Katherine you were absolutely hilarious which is what Comic Relief is all about. But I’ve got to be a little bit biased, and I love you all dearly – I’m going with Waterloo Road. You’re amazing” Paloma Faith said: “The whole thing rests on me. I cannot bear it…the nation knows I’m a big believer in a curvaceous, voluptuous woman. I believe in the power of Katherine!’
The viewers’ favourite, Antony Cotton, then closed the show with one more rendition of those winning moves to ‘Anything Goes’.
Tonight’s show was the second of three heats and saw Jon Culshaw, Rosemary Shrager and Kim Woodburn & Waterloo Road eliminated.
There were performances from Paloma Faith with her brand new single ‘Black and Blue’ as well as from Jon Partridge and the cast of West End show, ‘A Chorus Line’.
Next week, next week another group of celebrity contestants will take to the floor with more iconic dance routines, in a bid to win viewers over and secure their place in the final, alongside comedian Tim Vine, the Soap Stars, and tonight’s winners, Antony Cotton and Katherine Ryan. Next week’s show will air on BBC One and BBC One HD at 7.00pm – 8.20pm.
